Yes you can draw SS at age 62 and keep working. you can earn $12000 yr then they take a $1.00 for every $2.00 you make. If I Remember correctly. As for Kacky's answer it's not smarter to wait unless you need medicare insurance. In my case the difference in $ a month I'm losing now taking it at 62 compared to to taking at 65 I'll have to live till late 70's just to break even. If I even live that long. Enjoying it now rather than Maybe?? later

I am collecting Social Security. If you start at 62, you get less per month than if you wait until 66.
If you start collecting Social Security now, you can work and earn up to $12,500 without penalty. Above that amount and SS takes back one dollar for every two you earn.
If you start collecting now and if you can save the benefits you collect, you will come out ahead.
In my case, I estimate over $70,000 by the time I am 66.

If you start collecting at age 62 (not 62.5) your payments will be 15% less than if you wait until you're 65. You should have received a statement from SSA telling you how much you will collect if you retire at 62 and how much at 65. I believe you can also find out on-line at SSA.gov.

I know lots of people over 65 who are working 15-20 hours a week. They do have to keep track of their hours so they don't go over, but they are doing it.
It really is smarter to wait until age 65, because if you stop at 62.5, your payments will always be the smaller amount even after you hit 65.

SSI is means tested. Once your income hits a certain amount you will start to collect less and less and at some point it will be nothing at all.

Yes, but be careful, my dad did this and he suddenly lost his SS due to making too much money one month . . so for 6 months he's financially distressed.

The only illegals that pay to social security are the ones that have a ss card, they only get that by stealing it.

I believe you are allowed to earn about $12,000 without penalties. I would call the
S.S. office and ask them directly.
