It depends on what sort of examination it is.
If it's like a prostate exam.. well.. I really can't advise you on that...
If it's an exam for some class.. just quiz yourself up until the night before, get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast.
it's also somewhat dependant on if it's your exam or for someone else... gotta use marketing skills to make other people excited about it :)

Here are a few things that I've done:
1. Offer a very desirable reward to the top finishers. (Exemption from or additional points on a dreaded assignment, a gift certificate to a popular store, etc.)
2. Offer a field trip, series of fun Fridays or pizza party if the class average is above a certain (realistic) grade.
3. Show that you really care that they do well by spending class time to reviewing with your students. I've even gone so far as to making a Jeopardy-style team game with the study questions. If you do this, be sure to include "fun" categories about things outside of school that are popular or important to students their age (TV shows, music, movies, sports, etc.) The Jeopardy game will require a lot of work on your part, but if you give a similar test every year, you can reuse it. It's worth the trouble. Kids love something different and exciting. The members of the Jeopardy team who wins the review, gets five points added to that big test grade.
4. Give the students a practice test that's equal to the difficulty level of the test. Let the students take the test in class or at home. You can even give the the opportunity to pair with a classmate to work through the practice test. Put a school-related cartoon on it to show that you understand life from their point of view, to make the review sheet memorable and easier to find among their other papers.

They say that eating chocolate is good before taking an exam so why not have a small chocolate tasting at your place have everybody bring their favorite chocolate and cut it into small pieces and give everyone a small piece and then vote on the best and you will be prepared for the exam, of course you will need to study first! Then you can do the tasting part.

I'm taking my own certification exam on Saturday, so I know how it feels!
Just reassure yourself that you know the material and be confident in your ability to pass. Think of this as a milestone that you're ready for, that will lead to new and greater opportunities. Also embrace the challenge of it. You can do it!! Good luck.

This is too vague of a question. What age are the people taking the exam? Children, teenagers and young adults all have different ways to increase their enthusiasm and motivation. :)
