leave it on the curb, with a sign that says "doesn't run - free" It'll be gone in a day or so. People LOVE to snatch those things up and fix them.

This is a funny story. I had a riding lawn more that needed some repair and I wanted to give it away. So I placed it by the road and posted a sign "FREE". After a week went by I decided to ask $50.00 for it. Guess what the next day someone stole the mower!

Put it by the side of the road with a sign on it. Someone would take it. If you don't want to do that, advertise on Craigs list. I put an ad there to get rid of a downed tree that we cut up. Within a day I had someone come and clean it all up just for the wood. You would be amazed at what people will take for free.

Put it out in your yard with a free sign on it and state that it doesn't work. Or you can put a free ad in http://www.craigslist.com
My last roommate left some of his stuff in my house and never came back to pick it up. He later said I could donate it or whatever to get rid of it. So I put it on there and I got about 20-30 responses from people wanting it.
There are tons of people out there that like fixing up small engines like lawnmower engines as a hobby then turning around and selling them or using them. So I don't think you'd have much trouble getting rid of it.

Drain out the gas and the motor oil and take them to a recycler. Check the yellow pages in your area to find one.
After that you can take it the dump and most of it can be classified as scrap metal for recycling.

Just drive it behind Wal-Mart and dump it by one of the dumpsters. If they don't take it, well who cares it's not your problem anymore =)
