I have an old set of copper bottomed Revere cookware frying pans and kettles. They are all labelled with something like this on the bottom: 1801 REVERE WARE 12 in.-85 CLINTON, ILL. U.S.A.
Is there a possibility that these may be aluminum and not stainless steel.

Revere Ware was never made of Aluminum ever. They have only been made of Copper Clad Stainless Steel since their inception and beginning of production in1952.

NOTE* See if a magnet sticks (it will) indicating steel........

They are stainless steel. But they aren't very good. They use a thin gauge of steel, and a light coat of copper plating. Foods burn easily. You're better off getting a heavy gauge set of stainless with bonded layers of copper or aluminum on the bottom.

They are stainless. Aluminum will be very dull inside and can be scratched easily. Use the tip of a knife or other pointed steel object. Scrape inside the pot. Aluminum will actually come off as a sliver of metal, steel will barely scratch.

MINE ARE STAINLESS STEEL AND ARE FIFTY YEARE OLD. I HAVE NEVER HERD OF THEM BEING MADE OUT OF ALUMINUM. I FIND THAT THEY WORK VERY WELL. THE MAIN THING TO REMEMBER IS TO KEEP THE HEAT A LITTLE LOWER THAN NORMAL. TO CLEAN THE COPPER BOTTOM JUST WIPE A SMALL COAT OF CATSUP ON IT AND WAIT ONE MINUTE THEN WASH OFF.
