I was expecting members of the NRA to be here.
Peace to you too...
If you even want it.

Many of you would feel differently if it had been your child who was shot...

If there are less guns in circulation, there is less chance of getting shot.

Which part of this is so difficult to understand - the gun lobby (NRA etc.) make America look stupid.

Forget all the macho cr@p, this is the 21st century, not the wild west.

I know this is an off the wall answer but I think the media is just as important as whether we have the unfettered right to carry and use any kind of firearms.

There is simply too much TV and cable devoted to news. Any story, as long as it is of a sensational nature will make the news, attract viewers and make the advertisers happy. And when stories like school shootings are on the air, all it does is give other whacko ideas.

I am an old man. I remember the very first airline hijacking back in the 70's. Nobody ever heard of such a thing or thought you could do something like that. But as soon as the first one hit the airwaves we got one hijacking after another for years, all sensationalized by the press coverage. At times the hijackers were made out to be some sort of cult heroes.

Now the same thing is happening with school shootings. Just notice that you never really heard about such a thing until Columbine. Now it's one copycat after another who has a grudge and wants a day or two being the lead story on CNN - even if it means his/her own death.

A little restraint by the media could go a long way. The older I get, the better a little censorship sounds.

As to the original gun issue, I'm as perplexed as anyone about how to tackle it. One side of me says we cannot let the government disarm us. The other side is very upset about what is happening because we are armed.

I'm not smart enough to know that answer.

I'm just glad no one was killed. It's sensless for a child to be murdered in what should be a safe environment. I agree that there should be tougher gun control laws, but I don't think that they're the only answer here. There is something seriously wrong with children who don't see the harm in taking guns to school. And if it were tougher for kids to get guns, they would just find other ways to hurt people. The bigger picture here is figuring out why these children do these things and what can we do to stop it from happening again?

I know there is an argument that it's not the gun it's the person, but i do think that Americans could at least stop a lot of accidents happening in the home by storing their guns in a simple gun safe or cabinet and keeping the location of keys a secret from kids. Keeping a weapon in the dresser or a shoe box in the cupboard is just not good enough.

Tougher gun controls?

You mean like banning assault weapons after the Stockton California shooting in the late 80s?

Those kind of laws which gun-nut conservatives are accusing liberals and Democrats of infringing on their Second Amendment rights with?

You people are crazy. There are already strict gun laws on the books. What more do you want?

Could you be anymore wrong ROFLMAO. Alll we need is enforcement of the laws already on the books. It's already against the law for a 14 year old to take a gun on to a school campus, already against the law for him to be in possession of the gun period. As someone who has spend over 40 years around guns I have yet to see, read about or hear about a gun that has killed anyone on it's own, there's always a person who controls it so I say we need tougher people control.

So I should be willing to give up my rights because someone else can't control their bratty little children ?

I visited the USA for a holiday and stayed in a private house on the edge of a large wooded area in Pittsburg and on Saturday and Sunday, the sound of gunfire went on from early morning till about 5pm.

At first I didn't realise what was happening but was told it was people hunting in the forest.

What were they hunting I asked, reply was "Oh basically, anything that moves".

This made me wonder, in how many other forests in the US were men and women 'hunting'.

How can a civilised nation as important as the US, allow people to go around shooting animals for fun,

Something wrong with that in my book.

it truly is not very sensible. The 5 365 days olds couldn't carry them they're too heavy. you are able to not help NUTS at the same time as they twist off. The NUT could use a knife a bone a baseball bat or any form of alternative equipment to finish lack of life yet you do not ***** about them. it quite is why your good judgment is askewed. human beings kill human beings not what changed into in there hand on the time. Had the instructors contained in the Amish college had a telephone or a gun they could have ended that difficulty once the NUT walked in by using putting a bullet between his eyes. regrettably they did not and innocuous human beings had to die because of one NUT. human beings kill one yet another on a daily basis in automobile injuries yet i do not listen you complaining about vehicles. vehicles do not kill human beings the morons with their heads stuck up another position or on the rattling cellular telephone do. Oh, you say it changed into an coincidence. Bull. There are not any injuries, purely stupid blunders the morons and nuts make and something human beings stand round with our mouths open declaring, "What happened, he changed into the form of astounding guy" Oblivious because we would not imagine to do such an evil or undesirable component. regrettably there are undesirable human beings in this international and as long as there are undesirable human beings sturdy human beings favor to be armed and conscious with the intention to evade undesirable issues from happening. more desirable human beings die each and every 365 days on the fingers of their well being care specialist then by using being killed by using guns. you do not say, "lets ban medical doctors do you?" you do not favor to carry a gun then do not. at the same time as the scuffling with breaks out and also you're operating like a scalded ape because the purely component you've on your hand is air, i'd be putting a bullet into the undesirable adult adult males head. you are able to thank me later.

I think the real problem is with how children are raised. America is no longer the moral stable country it was. We have young people out there doing who knows what and their parents don't even care. Then we also have a media that makes drug use and casual sex glamorous. People start disciplining, spending time with, and loving your kids and stuff like that wont happen.

Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. Do you really think that someone that rapes and murders someone cares about a gun control law?

People get shot in Canada. They have EXTREMELY restrictive gun control laws.
