The MVP award is ....listen carefully... a REGULAR SEASON AWARD.... votes are cast prior to the start of the playoffs, even though the results of the vote aren't announced until November. So the answer to your question is, yes, A-Rod does deserve the MVP award.
The post-season has it's own MVP award, which A-Rod does NOT deserve.
Understand the difference? There's a regular season MVP award, which goes to the player who, in the opinion of the voters, was the most valuable player during the regular season. It has nothing whatsoever to do with how any player performs in the divisional series or the LCS, or even the World Series. The post season has it's own set of awards.

Hail yeah! He did his job for the regular season. Not only did he do his job, he surpassed the standard and broke records. Despite our dismal pitching, he brought the Yankees to the post season with consistent hitting and clutch offense. Pitching is what did the us (Yankees) in. Pitching is like defense in the NBA, you can't win without it.
Further, the way in which NY treated A-Rod was detestable. We (New yorkers) need to support our athletes through thick and thin when they are going through a slump. We bashed him. If he leaves, it's because of how he was treated.

YES! The MVP award is for the regular season, regardless of their performance in the post season. His stats speak for themselves. YES!

He's just lucky the voting is done before the playoffs. His season was incredible, and even if the Tigers had made the playoffs, Magglio's supporters wouldn't have a case. Any other year, Magglio would have won it, but this year, ARod was too far away from everyone else.

Give Arod two MVP awards. The guy is amazing and is the best in the league. Where was Pujols this year?
Arod, stay in New York. We love you man. If you leave, it will be one sad day in New York.

Yes, yes, and yes. As much as I hate to say it. He single-handedly kept the Yankees from imploding early in the season. Then when everyone else started to pick it up he was the best player on the team. He had the best season, and he was definitely the most valuable to his team.
