I know "things" happen in these groups. I used to be part of it. BUT..things turned out BADLY. How can you be sure if it's the HOLY spirit?? I thought it was too.

The Charismatics are not a religious group as much as part of a movement.. there are Charismatic Pentecostals and even Charismatic Catholics. What makes them different is that they believe in what they call "the charismatic gifts." These gifts include healing powers, speaking in tongues, prophecy, and miracles (along with more mundane gifts like knowledge and wisdom). These gifts are mentioned in the Bible and the Charismatics just believe that these gifts should still be used today while other Christians think they should not be used. To make a long story short, some believe that the gifts were only appropriate to help the early church get started and were replaced by the scriptures - the ultimate spiritual "gift".

They do believe that they can predict the future if the Holy Spirit chooses to give them prophecy, but I don't know if you could really call them psychic. You see them on TV healing people like Benny Hinn does. I could go on forever because this really interests me so I'll stop. I don't consider myself religious at all, btw. I hope that answers your question

people are easily influenced by what others are saying and doing around them. Its much like mass hysteria. when the group gets together, they feed off of eachothers energy. Its like one person making a suggestion to a group of other people, before you know it, everyones involved even though it was just a suggestion to begin with. thus the trance like state they achieve as a group. everyone is praying loudly and speaking in tongues. the more people getting involved the more intense it becomes. For those who believe in this stuff, the bible says to beware of false prophits and that after Jesus, there would be no more prophits. It also warns against those who say they can see the future and make predictions.

I was in one of these groups for awhile, and I have to say it was a bunch of non-sense and mind games.
I was about 18 and the minister was a cold-reader. I totally believed in psychics and stuff, and fell for his trap. However, my mind is always looking for loopholes in stories, and I caught him in a number of big lies he was telling.
Nothing magical. The one guy who got healed was looking for attention and pretended he had one short leg, it was silly.
People speaking in tongues were just speaking jibberish.
People interpeting the tongues, if anyone did, (and the bible says there will always be someone to interpet) were just making it up.

I am a Christian, and I believe in God, but this was not the work of God. If anyone, Satan, who deals in lies and deception.

Group-think frenzy, suggestability, learned behavior, etc.

It's just like speaking in tongues.
