If you are sued (and rightfully so), you will lose the case. It might have been wrong of that kid to insult your friend in that way, but you had absolutely NO RIGHT whatsoever to reciprocate by sucker-punching him. You owe him an apollogy at the least, restitution at most.

Verbal abuse is not sufficient provocation in the eyes of the law for an innitiation of physical violence by the offended party.

He didn't even insult you, just a friend? So, you weren't physically threatened, your friend wasn't physically threatened, there was just an insult. Tell your parents to get a lawyer, and yes, you're going to lose.

Given the additional details, you'll probably be OK. He initiated the physical contact with the shove, you may have over-retaliated, but maybe not. You then walked away, trying to stop the hostilities. He continued, and in the course of that you broke his nose. Odd as it may sound, that shouldn't be actionable.

Not only can you be sued, you can also be arrested and charged with battery. A couple of days in juvenile hall may actually do you some good.

You can not successfully defend your violent actions by using the words of the victim, regardless of who they were directed at. Work on your temper. Once you become an adult the same situation would very likely end you in jail.

Had you been defending a friend who was being physically atacked I think you would be fine. BUT, a verbal attack is no excuse for this assault you perpetrated on this young lady. Yes, you can be sued. No you would never win this case. You furthered the violence in this situation. You should learn to stand up for your friend in a manner that fits the situation. The most you should have done would be to call her a B!!!

You can't get sued. You could go to Juvenal hall for assault and your parents might get sued, but that part is unlikely. If it was at school expect to at least get suspended. If it was somewhere else (park, sidewalk, someones house) then the kid wold have to report it as assault for you to go to jail.

Calling someone a name will not be a good defense in court. The only time you would win on that one is if they physically threatened you first.

As an adult I shouldn't say this, but kudos for smacking someone that needed it. People need to learn when to keep their mouth shut, too bad that's illegal.

You are going to lose if he sues. You/your parents will have to pay his medical bills. The excuse "he called my friend a *****" will not justify it at all. Fighting is not acceptable.

The truth is, he needs to learn to keep his mouth shut, and you need to learn not to hit people. I know it's hard when someone deserves it, but people will sue anybody over anything these days. Plus, an assault charge on your record wouldn't look good.

yes you will most likely get sued and you will not win.
the person that throws the first punch is always at fault no matter what the taunt.
if you respond in self defense then you are justified.

Fighting is only justified if you are physically threatened. If you sucker punched this dude, then you got to pay.

Well I grew up in the 1950's and we used to say "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me".

Yes.
You may get sued for that bad grammar also!
