I've lived Chicago for the past 3 years, but it was too big and pricey. I'm a fan of the Midwest and post-industrial cities. I'm considering a move to Cleveland to be with a friend, and was wondering if anyone had advice. The friend is living in Tremont and likes it a lot. I found it to be cheap and safe. I'm wondering if there are any other areas where I could find better deals. If you know anything about Chicago, I'm looking for something comparable to the Humboldt Park, Logan Square, or Bridgeport. I don't have kids, so my main saftey concern is just not getting shot or raped. I'm a 21yo female, and I like somewhat sketchy and creative/young neighborhoods: no yuppies, no suburbs. I'm looking to pay under $600 for a two bedroom and just want a place that doesn't have roaches. I've been all over craigslist, but wanted more ideas. Are there are places with cheap listings (nothing like apartments.com) that you recommend, or is it better to just walk around and look?

I agree with the person who said that Lakewood and Cleveland Heights. One of my best friends lives in Lakewood and she likes it a lot, if you want to live closer to your friend then Lakewood is closer to Tremont. I thought all the gay men in lived in Ohio City? I am not sure. I can tell you all about Cleveland Heights and all the artsy things that go on in that city, so feel free to email me if you'd like. The more artsy neighborhood is Coventry in Cleveland Heights it is near the Cleveland Institute of Art as well as the Art Museum. You could also try little Italy, which has a lot of galleries and is even closer to the Museum. Good luck.

I'm not certain that it will be easy to find a two-bedroom for under $600 in a safe neighborhood (if you mean a two-room apartment that's a different story). I'm also not certain that Tremont is as safe as you think, and Ohio City isn't particularly safe either, based on comments that I've heard from residents and my knowledge of the neighborhood.

I have a friend that lives on Murray Hill in Little Italy, which has many apartments. It has relatively easy access to a Rapid Line and is a short walk to the cultural institutions on University Circle, and to Case Western Reserve University, which is the only major residential university in Cleveland proper. I am told Little Italy is very safe, but East Cleveland to the east is NOT. I've never asked about roaches....

Little Italy has a burgeoning arts community, lots of students, and has an enchanting charm, at least in the summer. You should at least check it out. Make a day of it, and walk around the university and University Circle.

Sorry, but I've never lived in any of the neighborhoods that you are considering.

There are free newspapers that list apartments, but, especially in Little Italy (which still is somewhat a tight-knit society), I suggest you ask at cafes, etc.

The Gold Coast is expensive and mainly gay men. I recommend the Ohio City area. It is near Tremont and considered a historical area. I would go to cleveland.com to check local listings and Cleveland also has a chamber of commerce located at Tower City. From what you are describing, I would check out Ohio City first. Cleveland Heights is on the other side of town and has little to no direct freeway accessibility. Ohio City has some nice coffee shops, bars, supermarkets and is really good for public transportion. It is not recommended that you walk down certain streets at night - like West 25th, Detroit Ave. etc. Get to know the area - it is historical but it also can border some Cleveland trash areas as does Tremont.

There are aspects of Garfield Hts that are extremely high-quality. in my view i do in contrast to Garfield Hts. yet I honestly have acquaintances and kinfolk who stay there and that they like it. I stay in Cleveland Heights, and that i can enable you to comprehend the portion of Cleve.Hts. i does no longer proceed to exist is Noble, that section is going down hill in case you inquire from me. different than that Cleve. Hts is a eye-catching city. Shaker Hts. is eye-catching too, its greater costly than the different 2 suburbs. If it have been me and that i replace into attempting to be certain the place to stay, i might attempt to journey each and every suburb. force around Shaker Hts. see what it has to furnish, same element with Cleve.Hts. & Garfield Hts. inspect the cities web content. heo3223 - there is not any such place as Eculid Heights.
