The car head gasket blew and started spewing mayo out of the head water bottle, so we took it to a maindealer who said they could fix the head and replace the cambelt which was £650.00.
They came back to us and said the head looked ok and give us the chose of sending it away to get it checked for cracks, or would we like them to put it back together and take a chance that it wasn't. there recommendation was to put it back together, so we went along with that, they did a road test and said that the engine was overheating. They then said that the radiator may be blocked and that someone had used the incorrect mixture in the coolant, antifreeze ect so they changed the rad, the rad from the old one must have been on it's way out because they put a hole in it trying to clear it!!!! They said that it wasn't the rad and that they could try the water pump which they tryed another said it wasn't that and that it may be a cracked head or the main block so the car was basically scrap.

but they did know someone that would buy it for £200.00 but we would still have to pay the bill of £654.00 what should I do......
The cheaper option would have been to put another engine into it??? but hey....we were told not to even go down that road!!!!!

We have had to pay the dealer so that we can get the car back, it's driveable only tow-a-ble which is the same way it went in it started before and starts after but is not driveable because it overheats so we have a new read a nd cambelt and springbolts but is in the same situ as before.... with no car... but £654.00 out of pocket. they did say that they would fit a engine for us if we got one but could not give a gareentee for the engine if replaced by them for this they have quoted £250.00

That question is a little vague...
Did the fix a flat tire, or replace an engine?

The short answer is no....you should not have to pay for the repair. The key word here is should. It's going to be on you to prove the dealer provided shotty service and that any new repairs are a direct result of their negligence. If you are unable to do this in full confidence expect to pay out of pocket.

Another catch 22 is the work will most likely have to be performed at the same dealer that did your initial repair. If you want to get it repaired at little to no cost this is just a risk you're going to have to take.

If you have or know anyone that has a mechanic friend have them check it out prior to making any claims at the dealer. Even a local shop willing to write up a diagnosis and cause letter would be of great assistance to you. If you have to fight the dealer you'll want to do it with as much ammo as possible.

Also, the longer you drive the car (assuming it's driveable) the lesser of a chance you'll have in getting it fixed at no charge.

Hope this helps!

No, Dealerships generally guaranty their work. If you waited months to bring it back you have no argument, and sometimes noone can prove the resulting dmaage was caused by the dealer. If they made an error, they will fix it for free. Otherwise call the dealerships headquarters and complain. They will be in a world of trouble.

You can talk to the owner of the dealership and complain. Most likely they will just tell you that they will repair the car again. if that doesnt work call their regional headquarters. I'm surprised that they let you pick up your car without paying in full.
