I always thought it was a reference to the Vietnam War and that it was pushing for revolution, but then I saw the movie Across the Universe and they used it to be against revolution

The original song "Revolution" is all about how people are pushing for change in the world, but some people are trying to change it in a violent way, when they should be trying to change it peacefully. The song basically means that you can have a revolution of thought without having a war. I haven't been fortunate enough to see the movie yet, but I am going this weekend. Can't wait!!

The group recorded two versions of the song. One appeared on the flip side of the "Hey Jude" single and is the one most people are familiar with. The other appears on the White Album and is a cruder recording. In it, when John sings the line "you can count me out", he immediately says the word "in". I'm guessing that by doing that, he wanted to leave the song up for personal interpretation.

I've read that both Lennon and McCartney have said that the song's about LSD. Also, day tripper refers to weekend hippies (people who only do drugs on weekends).
