Were thinking of moving to Savannah, what "older" neighborhoods are safe?

Hi,
Were are thinking of moving to Savannah, and although we've been there before and really loved it, we've heard it is not so safe, especially near downtown. But since were a younger couple, we would like to find a neighborhood we can really settle down in and maybe have kids in a few years. We love the older style bungalow/craftsman style homes and those kind of older neighborhoods, is there any near Savannah that are safe?

My sister lives in Savannah, and I visit there quite often. You will love Savannah! I wish I could go back there! Write to the Chamber of Commerce and they will tell you of some safe neighborhoods. Yes, the Historic District is relatively safe.Places like Jones Street near the riverfront downtown have some beautiful Townhouses if you can find one available. You can find the older bungalow/craftsman style homes anywhere from 48th Street on down to 58th or so. Those right off Habersham Street are pretty. That's where I used to live. Best wishes! Whatever you do stay away from the 37th Street area...its pretty run down out there and doesn't have the best reputation. The places around the Savannah Mall I would also steer clear of.

Your best bet is in the downtown area....the historical district is nice but very pricey.

Jones Street is good and so is the area from 40-ish to 57th street.........the older the area with established tenants na d safe surroundings=more money! Savannah is great to visit, but to live there right....you need some serious cash.

bubbleG9, I hate to be the one to tell you this but evil is everywhere ! Some places are safer than others. Just rely on the lord Jesus and he will keep your family in his presence.

the historic district is not only pretty, but very safe.
