The democrats would stop the war if they had the votes, but they don't.
They also know that if the war continues for 14 more months that they are guaranteed to win the White House and gain significant seats in both the Senate and the House.
The ONLY thing the democrats have to make sure of is that they aren't labeled as the reason the war fails. This is the republicans war and they will be blamed for the whole thing.

At this point I've realized that both parties are using this war for their own political advantage.. I did my research and decided not to vote for a top tier candidate from either party and opt for a candidate (Ron Paul) who will actually do something about it... Even if Bush veto's the democratic Congress, they can still stop funding it like Dennis Kucinich... or pose proposals to the president.. but neither Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama have done anything like that.. and now they are saying that they possibly cannot bring the troops home by 2013, this is ridiculous, nothing has or will ever come out of Iraq.. our economy is sinking.. we cannot even afford to be there and it's sad the only candidates that are advocating to stop it are labeled "crazy"

Dennis Kucinich is....but as far as the other Dems ....because they are politicians who are not interested in doing the right thing. They could have refused to authorize money for the war but they didn't have the moral back bone to do so. They were cowards, who were afraid to stand up -really stand up- to George Bush and his lies.

Hmm. Because any sane person knows that you can't just walk away from this conflict with out severe consequences. The consequences can be much worse for the United States and the World as a whole if we were to pack up and leave before stabilizing the region.

Because they're more interested in retaining power and just waiting out the storm than standing up for what the people want.
On the other hand, The Decider wouldn't let them stop the war even if they tried. He'd probably decare martial law if it came down to it.

Michael P---When have the Democrats ever taken a vote to end the war? They talk about it a lot, but they have never taken a vote. Do you know why-----because they're chickensh**s poilticians!!!! They know if they ever voted to end the war or cut off funding to the troops their political careers would be over-------no matter what the polls say!!!

Because of the obstructionist GOP war mongers.
That will be rectified November of next year. The Repukes will be cut down so they're a tiny minority, squawking on Fox,and ignored by the world.

If they vote to cut off funding, or set time line for withdrawal they are seen as not supporting the troops. If they vote to provide funding they are seen as a do nothing congress. It's a no win situation.
