Beacuse the moon orbits the Earth at an angle. Therefore, sometimes the moon's shadow is cast into space.

The moon does not orbit the Earth in exactly the same plane as the Earth orbits the sun. This means that the Earth's shadow is not always cast on the full moon, and it is still fully exposed to sunlight.

An eclipse of the moon can only occur at full moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of the Earth's shadow.

The moon spends most of the time either above or below the plane of Earth's orbit. During full moon, it usually passes above or below Earth's shadows and misses them entirely.

Imagine a straight line from the Sun to the Earth.If the monn was along this same line there would be an eclipse all the time. But the moon orbits at an angle from the imaginary line. They only intersect occasionally but very predictably.
