It means more than love.
People do alot of crazy things in the name of love...that they wouldn't think about doing if they truly respected the person.
When people fall in love they become attached and then extremely comfortable. They feel as if no matter what they do good or bad the other person will stick with them because the other person loves them.

People let other people shyt on them because they dont respect themselves.

Respect is a must...the problem with this world is that people dont respect one another. Some straits dont respect gays, some whites dont respect blacks and some men dont respect women. Contries dont respect other countries and I can go on and on.

For us respect is a very generalized assumption about how another or a thing will act or behave in any given situation. It dos not have to be positive, like respect for heights we assume that if we fall from high we will break thus we respect heights.

You could say that respect is a assumption or guess about how another or a thing will impact and influence us or those we care about through their or its’ actions. The greater the respect the greater its’ influence on our own actions.

RESPECT is..... an assumption of good faith and competence in another person or in the whole of oneself. Depth of integrity, trust, complementary moral values, and skill are necessary components.

Respect adds general reliability to social interactions. It enables people to work together in a complimentary fashion, instead of each person having to understand or even agree with every detail of another's method.

To me, in order to respect someone, you have to be considerate towards their feelings and how you approach them. If you respect someone, you would never be rude or think malevolently towards the other person. You would treat the other person the way you want to be treated.

The Golden Rule. Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. Nobody likes to be belittled, made fun of, or ridiculed. So don't do that to other people.
