I hated that obnoxious kid for ruining peoples lives. Why did he think he had the right to take over other peoples lives? Don Knotts was the only one with any sense in that movie. HATED IT!!!!

I don't agree that Toby Maguire's character or Reese Witherspoon's character were out to ruin people's lives. It's Don Knott's character - the "TV repairman" who was responsible for zapping the two kids into Pleasantville. Personally I liked the movie but I think it got too preachy at the end.

it's fiction. just because a movie has unpleasent characters in it doesn't mean it's bad. for example:
Schindler's List
Platoon
Apocalypse Now
1984

i thought it was unpleasant the first time around, but not for the same reasons you did. i watched it a 2nd time and it didn't bother me, in fact i thought it was very pretty, it's more interesting for it's artwork than for anything else. but maybe in a few years it won't bother you anymore (that's what happened to me).

Dude, How old are you? that movie was a great lesson on how we are all different and we should live our life the way we see fit to, Not how others think we should live it!!

The symbolism was pretty hamfisted, but it wasn't a bad flick. Maybe you should lay off the caffeine, there, bub.

i gotta agree with henry. it's just a movie. he was just taking what he knew and incorporating into their lives. so change doesn't work for everyone, you can't blame him for trying.
