The personel policy for the company I work for says 3 days off with an additional day if travel is required for close relatives including m.i.l.

No, there is no legally mandated bereavement leave. If it's in your company's policy and your mother-in-law is a recognized kinship for that policy, then you're okay. However, there is nothing compelling them to let you have the time.

Assuming your company has that policy, and assuming your Mother-in-Law is considered for that polcy, then it's just a matter of whether or not your mother-in-law is still your mother-in-law after your husband passes away. I don't think there's any official ruling on it, so that's up to your employer.

Personally, I don't think it will be a problem for you.

every job is different .talk directly to your human resource person.if you still had a relationship with your motherinlaw it should be excused.sorry about your loss.good luck.
