With the device sold by auto parts stores that is a 12 volt mini battery and it plugs into your lighter socket. It gives you enough juice to start the car and then you recharge it for the next time you need it. About fifty bucks, pricey but handy.

The other answers say what to buy to do that in the future but one thing I can add, if you are in the middle of nowhere and this happens, you can also start one car - it is then running on the alternator - take the battery and hook it up to the car with the dead battery and start the second car which is then also going to run from the alternator and get both cars on the road.

I have a battery charger with a special starting feature on it. when I want to start a car with a low battery I simply flip the switch to the START position. also their are portable battery supplies with cable you can buy from the automotive parts stores see link below.
It Might be cheaper just to remove the battery from the car and take it to the automotive parts store for testing. They will determine if the battery needs replacement and charge it for free if you left your lights on. You can get someone to push the car (over 50 MPH) this dangerous but we do it down south.Turn your car ignition on and get someone to push you down the road really fast while you have no power steering and no power brakes. If you crash you cannot get out of the car because the door locks wont work at l;east the air bags wont deploy until the car is upside down anyways. Get someone to take the battery out and get it checked out.

You can't, unless it was made in the early 80's or older (1984 for GM).
The only other option is to take out the battery and charge it with a wall charger, then replace it.

Either get your battery charged or get a "Booster Pack" to jump start it. Use of jumper cables can cause damage to your car's alternator or computer. You do not know what might be bad with the other car that can hurt yours.

Yes you can. There is a device that you can buy that actually plugs into your cigarette/acc. plug. It takes a little longer but will charge the vehicle enough to start. The only other option I know is a jump box. It sales for about $50.00 @ autozone or one of those part places.

Put it in neutral and push it out. Leave it outside, or make sure you can open your garage door manually so you don't wake your parents.

Ask my little sister, she used to do it all the time...until she she got caught. Hey, it was my duty as her older brother to make sure she was protected from the bad people out there. That is why I told my parents what she was up to, honest!!
