Once the season starts, you can't change the number of playoff teams.
One of the leagues in which I'm commissioner ran into the same issue, and the league settings don't allow you to change that option once play has started.

you should have some sort of setting for your league but if not then i think you might have to wait til next season to change anything cause mid season sounds a little late.

A - no...that's one of the many many settings you can't mess with after the season starts
for good reason
B - in the future, this question would get much better results in the correct section (the Fantasy Sports Section)
