So...
Male: 14 yes, 6 no
Female: 19 yes, 61 no

"Yes or male" is the same as saying
1 - (Female said No)
= 1 - (61/100)
= 39 / 100
= 0.39

The conditional probability that a person is male, given that the person said yes, is 14/33.
The conditional probability that a person is male, given that the person said no, is 6/67.

The probability that a person said yes = 33/100

If you take your whole group and put on one side all the persons who said yes or are male, you are left, on the other side, with only females who said no. This is easier to count (it is an AND situation).

P(female AND no)

There are 6 males out of the 67 who said no, leaving only 61 females who said no.

P(female AND no) = 61/100

Therefore, the other group is 1 - P(female AND no) = 1 - 61/100 = 39/100.

One hundered people in the survey.
33 answered "Yes."
(14 were male, so 19 were female.)

67 answered "No."
(6 were male, so 61 were female.)

Let's make a chart:

M/F M F
Yes 14 19
No 6 61

(Spacing in the chart doesn't work so well in this format, but you get the idea.)

Probability of "Yes" or Male: (14 + 6 + 19) / 100
= 39 / 100
=0.39

Yes: 14 male, 19 female --> 33 people that answered "yes"
No: 6 male, (and 61 female) --> 6 people that are male.

33 people answered yes (either gender)
6 people answered no and were male.

So all told, 39 of the 100 people either answered yes, or were male.

b. 0.39

Probability person answered Yes is 33/100
Probability person is a male is 20/100 = 1/5
The probability of either of these happening is .53
