This isn't using cenille YARN, this is the stuff where you use homespun cotton and somehow it frays

The cotton fabric is layered 3 or 4 layers thick, then straight stitching is made every 1/2 inch or so on the bias. Once all the stitching is done, all layers but the bottom are cut between the stitching lines. When the fabric is washed, the cut layers flare out on the edges.

I've seen the chenille yarn at Jo-Ann fabrics. Other stores will have it. too. While there, you can pick up a book or video on how to knit, or look here
