The Bush Administration took their time going into New Orleans for the same reason they won't go into Darfur: They are just 'black people' (according to them). A few thousand blacks don't matter to them so why would a few million? The only black they seem to care about is the kind that oozes out of the ground and costs 3 bucks a gallon.

Katrina is the biggest shame of this administration, and possibly this country.
Don't let Republicans blame it on the mayor or the governor:
Under Federal Law, disaster recovery starts at the local level and works its way up to the state and federal level as resources are exhausted. However, under Federal Law, that process is nulified once the President declares a Federal Disaster area. Once he/she declares that, the responsibility of disaster recovery falls on the Federal Government's shoulders under the President's direction usually through FEMA.
George W. Bush declared the Gulf Coast a Federal Disaster Area TWO DAYS BEFORE THE STORM HIT! So in essence, it took him 5 days to get help there.
It was truly a pathetic and sad use of time, resources, and effort on his part. A total failure that cost the lives of so many people. A national disgrace that will be regreted for decades.

The press didn't have to bring rescue crews, or anything at all to help anyone but themselves, they travel light.
Besides, they didn't take 2 hours, they were there days before rooting for Katrina.
Nagan, the skin-head mayor, gave a press conference before the storm even hit.
He said:
"This is it"
"This is the one we have feared all these years"
"The city is lost"
"There is no more New Orleans"
"Everyone get out now, there will be nothing for you to return to"
"If you stay, no one can help you, it won't be possible, you're on your own and you will die"
Wow, he must be a real blast at parties!
That day, Bush declared the city a disaster area, before the first drop of rain hit the ground.
OK...now here comes the storm, as advertized.
BTW: Still haven't heard from Blanco, the governor of La. yet.
Now, where's Naga? Nobody knows.
Finally, he surfaces... On of all things, a radio station call in show. Are you kidding me?
He says: "There are ten thousand dead people in New Orleans" "The city is broke" "Somebody better get off their a s s e s and do something"
Again, Are you kidding me?
He's holed up on the top floor of a hotel, he's cut off from the outside world, the storm is still raging and he some how knows exactly how many people are dead and what the fiscal situation is?
Again, Are you kidding me?
With the storm still blowing, he wants FEMA on the scene already? To do what? They don't remove the dead or pull people from the drink. What would he do with a FEMA check at that point?
Still nothing from Blanco. Where's the national guard? The guard hasn't moved yet but, FEMA should be there already?
OK, the storm is over.
Finally, Blanco gets a call from Bush:
Bush: Governor, anything you want, just ask and I'll make sure it happens.
Blanco: I want the 82nd Airborne Division.
Bush: Huh? For what?
Blanco: We need a presence there.
Bush: But the 82nd is a light quick strike attack force, they don't have the equipment nor the training to do rescues, all they know how to do is kill people on a wholesale basis.
Blanco: We have looters here and if you don't send the 82nd I'll tell the press you hate black folks.
Bush: OK OK Kathleen, calm down. I'll send them but, they are federal troops, I'll have to federalize the whole operation down there.
Blanco: Come on George, I want to be in charge of a real army not these Guard Red Necks.
Bush: OK governor, we'll try it for a few days but, please, see if you can find out where the hell that bald-headed, nit wit of a mayor is and tell him to get off the radio station and call somebody here. No body knows what the hell is going on down there.
Bush: Hello? Hello?
Blanco: Click
Turns out, Nagan was right. There were 10,000 people still in the city. He knew exactly how many people he did nothing for and that they would be stranded. Wonderful. Some of them were already living in the buses that should have taken them out but Nagan sent all the drivers out of the city before the storm and told them not to come back. Three full, major metropolis bus fleets, Access, Transit and School all just sitting there not moving. What an idiot!
New Orleans: One of the busiest tourist cities in the world. The center of the oil industry in the Gulf. The center of the seafood industry in the Gulf. The center of the arts in the south and perhaps the entire country. All commerce in and out of the MIssissippi River has to pay New Orleans. One of the top tier large cities in the US recieving federal aid for education, welfare and job fare.
The city is broke? Where did all the money go Mayor?
No answer. The liberal press, too afraid to ask.
$110 Bn shows up for the rebuilding.
Nagan says: I was just kidding, the city is not lost, come back.
The new city will not be for white folks though. Nagan only wants 'chocolate' folks. What an idiot.
This idiot, and that farce of a Governor in Baton Rouge, in the face of disaster, was a total failure in every respect.
He did absolutely EVERYTHING wrong.
Were the citizens of New Orleans outraged?
No, the re-elected him.
New Orleans can kiss my butt.

The press was there days before it ever hit. I remember it all so well because, I too live in hurricane territory and we always keep our eye out on those things. My home has been hit on 2 occasions in the past several years and we watch very closely as to where the next predicted hit is supposed to come in from.

I don't think they have ANY compassion for real Americans. They were blindsided by the idea that anybody else cared. And Barbra Bush pretty well clarified the family view when she said how well "those people" were making out of the situation .
They had an incompetent fool in charge of FEMA, who did not seem to know that emergency rescue teams could be called up from all over the country by FEMA.
Many of them were staged and ready to go, and got sent to the wrong location, or got sent home.

I totally understand what you're asking. And, it all has to do with the Bush/Cheney doctrine and their adherence to the Milton Friedman doctrine of radical capitalism and right wing economics. I think you'll find the following site very interesting to read. I listened to an interview with Naomi Klein this morning on DemocracyNow.org and she is absolutely brilliant. She just wrote a book "The Shock Doctrine" critiquing Milton Friedman's economic theories by studying his books and linking them to the very violent upheavals of the last 30+ years in trying to force them not only on the American people but on the world as well. She addresses Katrina as well. There is also a short documentary film on this site that you can watch. Seriously this may very well answer your question in a more deeper way than asking Yahoo answers and expecting cons to actually know what's going on.

I can't excuse either one, or the two(actually three) Border Agents thrown in jail for stopping a shipment.
If you get Free Speech TV you'll find even more crooked stuff going on. In CA FSTV is free and is channel 9415 & 9410.
They are 100% independent.
arman-in the 2000 elections the adm trumpted up a 'felon' list with thousands of black names on it to eliminate them from voting for Dem party-one of the guys had been in our armed forces for 4 yrs who got on the 'black'list of 'felons'

The Army Corp of engineers are to blame. They were told those levys weren't going to hold, but the federal government did nothing.
FEMA was run by an Arabian Horse Commisioner. All the resources: Law enforcement, H2O, dump trucks, boats and aircraft were available, but not implemented in the plan.

It would have taken two weeks, if the refineries wouldn't have been hit, so consider new orleans lucky that they were.
Pfo, it took my employer less time than it did the government to truck supplies to New Orleans, and paid for by employees i might add.

"CAIN" (above) has the absolute worst answers I have ever seen on here. I am glad he is for my opposition. What a numbskull.
Ray Nagin is a horrid mayor, yes, but you can't place ALL the blame on him.
I'll never forget when he said that he wants to turn N.O. into a "chocolate" city. Any mayors for turning their city into a "vanilla" city?
