It seems like there are no opportunities...we have a community theatre but the productions are pretty small scale. I played belle once in BATB at a musical theatre summer program in the city and i LOVED it
does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

Get the entertainment section in your local papers and really look at where the theatres are that are closest to you. Find out where they post audition info and see how manageable it would be for you to perform at any of those theatres realistically. Many theatres are currently casting holiday productions. Tons of actors near me travel up to 2 hours each way to work at certain theatres or to do a show they've always wanted to do. How driven are you and what resources do you have to work with? Can you drive? Do you have gas money? Are you parents supportive?

best of luck!

Find camps for musical theatre. There are several out there. Maybe you can even get a scholarship. Good luck
I love musical theatre too and I tend to run into the same problem. not enough around my area.

Something that worked in my area:

Post an ad somewhere (this person used Craigslist.com) saying that anyone interested in doing musical theatre in your town should contact you, and plan to talk with whomever is "in charge" of your community theatre about starting a musical theatre program. Also, ask your area schools to get involved, i.e. advertise your program to students.

This won't satisfy your long-term goal, but for one very entertaining evening, rent the "Waiting for Guffman" DVD. It's a story about a small town that produces a musical that it hopes to take to Broadway. Brilliantly funny, and possibly a marketing tool to draw other locals to your cause!
