Ok, since there are no specifics, I'll ask the basic 2 things:
1: They could be copyrighted songs, so unless you downloaded their licences from the microsoft site, then they won't play.
2: What format are they? Some formats don't play on WMP, so you should check what types of files your WMP can play, and see if you can change the settings to work for your song.
Also, see if they work in other music playing programs, such as RealPlayer and Quicktime....if they work in those programs, then the second possibility is more likely...

It is very likely that the file extension of the songs you downloaded are not compatible with Windows Media Player. Common extensions that are compatible with Windows Media include .mp3 .wav .mp4 . etc. You could try playing it with Itunes or convert the songs into another extension with a program like Nero or AVS converter.
