I have a friend named Glenda and of course she loves witches (as in Glenda the good witch in Wiz of OZ). For me there's just something about Pumpkins and the onset of Autumn and going on into Halloween JackoLanterns that's exciting to me. How about you?

Halloween has always been my favorite time of year and favorite holiday because you get to pretend to be something else and that is so much fun. I love the sky in the fall, which here in Florida turns to shades of purple and pink at sunset. The full moon looks bigger as it comes across the ocean and the wind smells like sea spray with the oncoming northeasterly that begins to blow through in October. I go all out and decorate my house to look like fall with colored leaves and candles. I always buy new scary Halloween characters and put them in places people never expect to startle them. This year I have an awful looking rat that pops out of the toilet when you raise the lid and a skeleton that is motion sensitive and yells stuff out in a gruff voice when you walk by.
My first memories as a child were in Louisville Kentucky on my first trick or treat outing with my mom. I remember how enchanted it was to be outside at night and the wonder of all the stars and the moon just thrilled me. I was never afraid. I especially remember all the lightening bugs in the trees and that I wanted to catch some in a jar. My Mom and I did this and that night instead of going through all my candy I closed my door to a dark room with a lightening bug jar all aglow. I was just so fascinated by this phenomenon.
Today I love to see all the little children dressed up so cute and I love to go through all my kids candies before they do to get the best stuff. I am just like a big kid myself at age 56. My kids must have caught the halloween gene from me because even as teenagers they still go trick or treat. Hmmmmm!

This is my wife's favorite time of the year.

She MAKES me put up all the Halloween decorations and lights for the kids and of course Halloween night is always just perfect with the decorations, lights, candles and of course bags of candy for the kiddies. She requires that we have "special bags" for the little monsters who are celebrating their first, second or third Halloween.

Great part about it is I always get to see this special time through her eyes and it is truly a remarkable sight.

The kids...just the kids coming to the door on Halloween night! Whether in a store-bought costume or something their moms created, I just love their excitement and joy. Especially the littlest ones, who are just so in awe of knocking on doors and getting candy in return!! And I love their openness, like the year that I gave out those little boxes of raisins, evidently a bad idea, and one little boy politely told me "no thank you" and turned around and left!

I love the expression on the little faces as they look up with expectation and a hint of fear. They are excited being dressed up in costumes but they are afraid of the dark and seeing new faces.

Yes, Jack-o-Lantern, and the many faces that evolve and
take you by surprise, such fun to share with children of any age, a family affair! added to that for me it was Chasper the friendly ghost, through many years I sewed ghost in many guises, and draped small figures. and made costumes for
children in my life. A very creative time of the year, with many fond past memories.

We have one of those "blow up" snowmen...maybe we'll put it out for Halloween!! lol.
We got some of those pumpkin bags and filled them with blankets...and a scarecrow and put them on our little "island"..also have a ghost that travels on a wire and says ewwwwwwwwe...or uuuuuuuuuuu....scares the dogs and ducks.
