I just got my new laptop which has vista on it. I'm trying to instal and save some files unto my c drive but then it gives this error.

c:\program files\xampp-win32.1.6.4-installer exe
you don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Please what does this mean and how do i go about solving the issue

This is one of the reasons Vista is a pain you know where. Any file that has a .exe extension is an executable file and could possibly harm your computer if is some malicious software and that's why Vista is denying permission.

So first of all make sure you are logged in with the admin account.
This file seems to be an installer so just save it in the desktop and then right click on it and select run as administrator in order to run the installer. Follow the installation wizard and your program should be good to go.

Might depend on the software you install. There are compatibility issues when installing softwares on your vista machine that are originally designed for win xp. They give out errors that we cant figure out what.

Hi. It means that for some reason you do not have administrator privileges on the laptop. Log of and log in with a privileged account.
