From my father, who told me he was proud of me when I quit a job because the owner was a horrible racist who made insulting comments in front of customer's. I had nothing else going for me, but told that to my next employer in the interview and got the job on the spot making more money than I had been.

When I was younger, my mother always urged me to make sure that I was ready before I had any children. I'm still not ready and I still don't have any children, and I still think it was a great piece of advice.

I don't even talk to the ex friend who gave it to me but its true and i still use it today...
