Ask someone else to remove it.

(Incidentally, fly/bug spray won't affect it.)

If you can, I would try to catch it in a clear glass or container, slide a magazine or something flat under it and release it outside. Spiders eat bugs and other insects.

But if you're dead-set on killing it (no pun!), bug spray can be harmful to pets or babies. I discovered long ago that hair spray works really well on bugs. It's sticky and you can catch them easier. Then collect it in some toilet paper and flush it. No squished gooey mess!

(Just thought of another alternative that I like to use -- if it's in the bathtub/shower area, turn on the steaming hot water. It also helps if you have a removable shower head. Either way, the hot water will kill it and then you can just wash it down the drain. Again no s.g. mess. Obviously I hate those!)

Well, I see that most folks suggest the prompt squashing of said spider. However given that wolf spiders are quite large and would likely make quite a mess if squashed, I would suggest using a piece of paper and a bowl, catching and releasing the creature outside. Now given the fact that I am very afraid of spiders, I would ordinarily never suggest such a humanitarian effort be extended for such a wretched creature. I have however squashed one of these large spiders before and trust me the resulting mess is far more disgusting that the thought of catching and releasing one.

The fastest way would be to use your human weight advantage over this lightweight spider.
(you are 1000's of times heavier than it is)
I'm putting my money on you in this fight.
If it's on the floor, Use Your Shoe!
If on the wall, Use a Fly Swatter, it should do the trick!
(if you play tennis think FOREHAND SMASH!)
I'm just hoping that your hand-eye coordination is up to the task at hand. If you miss, the spider won't jump at you but will most likely drop to the floor and run for its life.

Good Luck!

Better a spider than something worse. Spiders keep worse critters away. Kill it, and expect them to appear...

Suck it up with the hand held attachment on the vacuum. Then vacuum up some baking soda; nothing is going to live through that.

the friendly thing to do would be get a tupperware container and something flat to slide under & set it free outside, then you don't have to deal with cleaning up the guts.
