They do not pay taxes, therefore they should not receive money from us. They should be self supported.

It all depends on WHY they are getting the asssistance. If they are a group performing social services and just happen to also be affiliated with a religion then perhaps it is all good.

On the other hand, if the only reason they are getting the funding is BECAUSE they promote a certain religious belief then no they should not be getting the funding.

Absolutely not! Why should I pay for a religion I don't even belong to? That money should go to the one's who actually need it... the poor. Not those faking to get handouts... but the truly poor people, the homeless kids on the street, etc... I'm not paying so a "private" school can teach their kids their religion so they can turn around and tell me and my family that we're going to hell. I say tax the churches... and give that money to the poor (where it's supposed to be going in the first place!)

I think that everyone should get to compete to provide government services, including faith-based non-profit groups.

It isn't nuts, it's called competitive and efficient.

Under our current system, no. But it should depend on why they are getting the funds. If they are getting them for nonreligious charity purposes, and are made to account for every penny, which currently they are not, I see no problem with it.
