I agree with Zelda, but true humility comes in stages. Few of us never feel pride over anything, a job completed that was difficult, etc. Just because some one has pride in something does not mean they are necessarily out to hurt or belittle you. For myself, there have been times I have been proud of my humility, recognized my pride, then been proud to have recognized it. It is not always just so simple. Thanks

Humility refers to the lowest most central form of the self, if it means anything at all. So no, not at this level. However that doesn't mean they may not have all the appearance of pride to you... humility means obeying a calling to be humble, and if you threaten that, you can expect the humble to counter you. That is the meek conquering the earth.

A truly humble person would not. This is false humility - designed to manipulate other people into doing your bidding for you. I have a lot of recent personal experience with a family member who is like this. It's all so passive-aggressive. You end up feeling guilty, because you feel you should trust that person and respect them, though you cannot. That impostor of humility always wants to demonstrate that they are superior to everyone else.

Look deeply into that humble person, and if you do not discover any kind of pride, arrogance or blatant disrespect for others, then perhaps they are truly humble.

Yes, ina way. Let us not call it pride, because, if it is pride, then there shall be no humility. It is a sense of fulfilment, contentment, happiness in being so with such humility, and a deep sense of self respect.

A line from a poem which I wrote would answer this for me:
from The Measure of a Man
'but when he meets his maker, though deserving Heaven's treasure
He humbles, there to bow his head
and kneels before the measure!

you ask good questions!! :)
I know that pride is a part of human nature, and how often do we struggle to be humble...? It seems as though there are varying degrees of humility and humble people. so someone who has achieved ultimate humility would not pride themselves on it... rather, I imagine that they would be THAT much happier, and more lovable.

Would you recognize a truly humble man. Would he not have discarded even the mask of humility, and walk unshielded by any pretense.

I have been wondering, are we kind because of convenience, or are we kind out of kindness. If we are truly kind, then would our kindness always have the appearance of kindness?

I have been wondering what is done out of love and what is done to have the appearance of love. How often do we fool ourselves?

Dang, i'm going to be certain on a word record and refresher in Philosophy one 0 one to respond to this suitable. To me, being humble is retaining my bodies interior my physique, in many cases to the chant 'i'm basically a guy in a physique'. the factor of it extremely is to combat the delusions of grandeur that bypass hand-in-hand with my paranioa. i'm no longer so significant that finished strangers conspire against me, in spite of if the rumor mill has made some hate me without understanding me. that's a actual alleviation to make myself understand that im taking myself too heavily and that at the same time as i'm going to be my own worldwide, i'm no longer the middle of the Universe. Faked humbleness may be somebody taking large self-magnitude at being below somebody else. Like a brown-noser. Gee, boss, you're so clever, if basically i could desire to be as witty and prepared as you! i assume you may desire to get creative and say humble is being undemanding, retaining an person-friendly innovations-physique. at the same time as humility could desire to be attempting to maintain your ego in a reasonable place.

This seems to me, an oxymoron.
To be humble refers to a lack of vanity or presumption. It's used more frequently as patronizing to another, & sanctimonious when used of oneself. (This isn't my "opinion," this is the basic meaning of the word.)
Pride is self congratulatory, it can suggest self-righteousness & is an estimate of one's virtues.
How could someone be proud of their humility?
