Scam.

Here is why:

# The following phrases should put you on alert:

* "from the desk of":
a common phrase found in 419 scams
* "affidavit of claim", "consultation fee ":
this will cost you money - be careful with upfront payments to anyone you only know through email, especially if they promise you a lot of money. Never ever send money by Western Union or MoneyGram to people you do not know personally.
* "affidavit ", "barrister", "chambers", "high court":

# Barristers (lawyers) mentioned in 419 scams are always fake.
# Western Union or MoneyGram money transfer are completely untraceable and therefore are not safe to use with anyone you do not know personally. They are the preferred method of online criminals to collect money from their victims.
# This email lists mobile phone numbers. Use of such numbers is typical for scams because they allow criminals to conceal their true location. They can receive calls in an Internet cafe from where they send you emails, while pretending to be in some office.

* +447024018952 (UK, redirects to a mobile phone in another country)

# This email lists free webmail addresses. Besides personal use for legitimate purposes, use of such addresses is also typical for scams. NOTE: Lotteries, banks, government agencies and any but the smallest of companies do not normally use such addresses. Criminals use them to anonymously send and receive email at Internet cafes.

* barrister_carter@yahoo.co.uk (email address has been used in a known fraud before)

1) Any fool can look up an attorney's name in the phone book, and send you an email.

2) If you send someone money via western union, you have virtually NO recourse if they're in another country and you learn you've been defrauded.

3) in a real situation where you were the beneficiary, they'd simply deduct any fees and send you the rest. That's perfectly legal... this email is perfectly stupid.

Look, if you're willing to send £450 to any eejit who sends you a duff email and claims to be a lawyer, send it to me - I'm a real lawyer and I can promise you you'll get exactly the same share of the promised 45,000 ruppees from me as you would from the scammer who sent you this email.

This looks as dodgy as a six-pound note - does anyone really fall for this cr4p anymore?

It is a scam but if you think that it is true, then go ahead.

Why did I get a thumbs down? Everyone, including myself, says that this is a scam. Everyone knows this is a scam yet the poster says "Really, it's true". If you think it is true, then go ahead and reply, just don't whine to us after you get scammed.
