Okay so here is the question there are a lot of single mothers out there who are fighting with the system to get child support. (sucks for them) but there are also a lot of men who are on child support and pay faithfully (hard to believe we never hear about them) but I have been doing some research and found that child support takes more than half of your earnings. Should we not have programs designed to help men who are doing their best to be good parents finacially and emotionally. I mean we have them for women. Feedback please just a thought!

I live in the state of Florida and up until two months ago there were no law to protect men even if DNA results came back saying that the child belonged to another man. Here if you have been in the childs life since two then you still would have to pay. My research is done on the state of FL and there are NO programs that analyze bills or expenses, The state is not really "with the program" so to speak

Yes, we should! I think radical feminists have gone way too far in making provisions for women, to the complete exclusion of men. Men are not our enemies--they are our equals! There are many cases of men who go without food because they have to pay their child support or else be felonized. Many men paying child support cannot afford housing and end up "bunking in" with any friend or relative who will put up with them. This state of affairs is not going to build up a healthy society for all.

Well, child support doesn't take half of the earnings - but it definitely takes a HUGE chunk.
And in some situations, the parent pays a large amount of money for child support and pays daycare costs, and has shared custody but the other parent never sends the child in anything but the clothes on their back so it forces that same parent providing child support to purchase an entire wardrobe of clothes and shoes.
The whole system is designed to screw the father - it has been for years. And shellanswerman - not every father walks away. Some fathers fight for their kids and still get screwed over.

Child support is finally becoming mandatory, and it is about time. In NM there is no way that any assignment of income can amount to more than half. This includes garnishment and child support. I don't know any state which allows more than half of your income to be taken on assignment. The only exception to this is I believe IRS assignments, a whole different issue.

Hey there,
There are far too many dumb a-- men who let the woman take the children by default because they don't want to be bothered with full-time childrearing. These same men will say how much of a hassle it'd be to try to raise a child without the woman in the picture.
I am a man, and I have TWO children at home that I am raising. Guess what? I make a six figure income and just for kicks, I receive child support. Most men would be too proud to ask for it, but in my case, I paid it for years until my oldest daughter decided to come and live with me, so I said to myself, well hell, if I can pay, then her momma can pay too!
One can't complain about doing the work to raise children AND expect to get off scott free.

Assistance?
A child support order shouldn't be taking more than half of a parent's earnings. Something is off there; unless he just owes a lot of arrears, has a bunch of kids or something. I know in CA there is a computer program where you put in several factors of each parent (income, costs, etc) and it provides the amount of c.s. due.

Although it varies from state to state, they do not take half the income. The support is taken out before taxes, and is a percentage based on the number of children you had a hand in producing.

I dont know where you focused your research on but in my state of CT ....child support is based on each parents income, and bills. The state has percentage guidelines--meaning there is only so much that can be taken out of the paying parents income and in no way is it close to half.

It got that way because women cry. Men don't like that so they kept giving more to stop the crying. Now they're down to 50%.
All in all, everyone needs to try harder to not get divorced. It's much better for the children than 2 Christmas'.
EDIT
The others are right about how it can't be more then half, but I know a couple guys that it's damn close.

Child support obligations are variable, based on the non-custodial parent's level of income, needs of child, and other considerations.
I am not sure where you are getting "half of your earnings" from.

I think they should be happy with whatever the government gives them. It's a socialist program and should be scrapped.
Charitable organizations should offer day care so the parent can go to school, get an education, and live well with their children with no handouts from the government.
