The Red Sox have a team payroll in 2007 of $143 million while the Indians, Diamondbacks, and Rockies have a combined total team payroll of $168 million. Why should any of us want the Red Sox to win when it looks like they are trying to buy one themselves?

Great point K-Dubbs, the $50 million negotiating fee for the right to talk to Dice-K is not part of the Red Sox 2007 salary numbers.

Lets face it, payroll doesnt win championships....as a Yankee fan Im happy as hell our owner gives us a chance to win every season by putting his money where his mouth is, although sometimes he is a bit extreme. As for the sox, that total should go up another $50+ million that they spent just to negotiate with that mediocre pitcher Dice-K........plus the money the yankees spend in revenue sharing, other teams have more money to spend, their owners just dont want to.

What kills me is some of these fans who complain about the Yankees are Met fans & Red Sox fans who should be the last people to complain about buying a championship. For the record i hope the Rockies go all the way.

Don't forget this - To go to a game at Yankee Stadium and sit in the nosebleeds costs over $100.00 per person per game. It's one thing to spend all your money to get a winning team (a la Steinbrenner), it's another to think of your fans and try to keep the prices down. The Yankees raised their ticket prices 150% for the playoffs, charging facility and convenience charges. Ridiculous, they rip off the fans. Arod $25 mil, jeter, $20 mil, Clemens $28 mil, Giambi 21 mil, Damon $10.5 mil. Thats over $100 million on 6 players alone. That is what ruins baseball. Teams should be capped. The fans pay for it all - not the owners.

Excellent point. Last year the Red Sox spent 143 million and couldn't make the playoffs. Yet they're the 1st fans to complain that the Yankees buy their championships. Its like India complaining that China is too over-populated.

I don't like the Yankees or the Red Sox but you do bring up a good point. I would really like to see some Red Sox fans answer this question.

TOO MANY ENOUGH WITH THE QUESTION.....PICK A NEW TOPIC ALREADY.......WE GET IT THE YANKEES HAVE A BIG BUDGET SO THEY TRY AND GET BIG NAMES TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES....AS HISTORY HAS PROVEN OVER TIME IT DOESNT WORK THAT WAY!!!!

BASEBALL IS A BUSINESS AND IN A BUSINESS THE MANGEMENT WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BE NUMBER ONE.....IN BASEBALL THAT IS WINNING THE WORLD SERIES AND IF TEAMS LIKE THE YANKEES AND RED SOX HAVE DEEP POCKETS TO GET THE PLAYERS THAT THEY WANT TO HELP THEM WIN THE WORLD SERIES THEN THAT IS THEY ARE GOING TO DO...IS IT FAIR TO THE OTHER TEAMS IN MLB....NO NOT BY A LONG SHOT...BUT BUSINESS IS BUSINESS AND LIFE GOES ON!!!

blah blah blah, where's your usual blather about 26 World Championships? Your team is lousy, DEAL WITH IT!

I've been a Sox fan through thin and thinner. 2004 was the best year of my life. Their payroll still wasn't equal to the Yankers. Your team lost. Get over it!

EDIT--Sorry about assuming. I don't think the Sox are buying a championship, they have a large payroll but at least those guys deliver. Unlike some I could mention from New York. ANd why are you guys picking on the Sox anyway? Do you know how many years we had to take abuse from the rest of you people? Get over it already! I'm sorry your teams didn't make it to the playoffs or the series. It's not your year!

Honestly I'm tired of folks looking at, sooooooo closely, how much money is spent to improve any owner's team, especially the Yankees..........Anyone that wants something good (not only in sports) and has the money to get it goes ahead and does just that.........Why should it be different with team owners who want a winning team????.............It seems no one ever talks about the home grown Yanks and there are several of them.........Why is it so important to us, as sports fans, how much money is spent to build a winning team???......It isn't and never has been to me........I don't care about that end of it, I just want to see my team/s of choice win..........In fact I don't even see where that's any of our business...........How a player does in his respective sport and how our teams do is really all we should care about.......For myself, that IS all I care about...........CAT

And lets keep in perspective that there are a lot wealthier owners out there than Steinbrenner, he just puts his money where his mouth is. Dont hate on a man for spending tons of $$$ on his team because the owner of your fav team is stingy with his cash.

I wouldn't care if the Sox players were playing for free, I still wouldn't want them to win.
