According to the (very handy) information that is produced by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco:
How Do You Get a Copy of Your Credit Report? You are entitled to receive one free credit report every 12 months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies—Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. This free credit file can be requested through www.annualcreditreport.com or by contacting the companies directly by phone or by mail as listed below. To process your request, you will need to provide specific information, such as your name, current and previous addresses, telephone number, social security number, and date of birth. Also, to verify your identity, other information such as a copy of your driver's license, utility bill(s), or bank statement may be required. Keep in mind that the three large bureaus do not necessarily share information with each other. The content of your credit report can be different at each bureau, so it's a good idea to request copies from each one.
and here is a link to their webpage that is very helpful.

NONE!!! Do not call these people!!!
Contact one of the credit reporting agencies directly. By Law they owe you one free credit report annually or if you are turned down for credit because of something off of their report.
I contacted a free report company one time and I only got just a little bit into the process before I realised they were fishing for a lot of information.
You are absolutely correct for being paranoid!!

I signed up for one, which did give it to me for "free" [there was a $3.00 "processing" charge or something] but I didn't follow through with cancelling it afterwards and the following month $20 was automaticly charged to my account for it. They refunded me after I called & complained with no problem though. I know some banks give you free monitoring for your score as an incentive for having an account with them, I have a few accounts with Washington Mutual and with my credit card they give me my score every few months.

All free credit report sites will give you a free one, but if you want more than just the one then you will have to start paying for them. Thats how all of them are, you can't get a service like this for free. The site i use is Freecreditreport.com.
