If you are rude to someone and you know you were out of order. You are on a road island waiting to cross the road and the guy is standing in front of you.

However, you are with a work colleague and it is night time. If you see the guy in front of you would you approach them and apologise? Or does the fact that you are with a colleague stop you from approaching the guy?

In other words would you wait until the next time so see the person when it is only you two to apologise or would you still do it front of your colleague?

Assume that it is difficult to leave the colleague as you are getting the train home together.

I would definitely apologize as soon as I could no matter who else was around. If I seen the person and didn't apologize right away that would be even more rude. Plus if you apologized on the third meeting that person might think that you weren't being sincere.

It is inappropriate to deal with a personal situation when you are in the middle of a professional one. If I needed to speak to someone I had a personal situation with, but was with a colleague, I might approach the person and ask that they call me later, or if I could call them later. That way the person would know I wasn't trying to blow them off, but timing is bad to talk right then.

I'd tell the colleague to wait there a second and then go and apologise.

I totally agree with jenny72x. If you don't apologise as soon as you realise you are in the wrong it just makes you seem more rude i.e. as if you don't care that you were out of order. Just apologise :D

I'd wait for a convenient time. Something about airing dirty laundry in front of strangers. It should stay a personal matter, not a public show of penance.

I would wait until we were alone. Sometimes it's hard to apologize, especially when you acted like a jerk.

You can always pull the person to the side and speak to them.
