Why do they bother having TOS?? I see it violated all the time in postings. Why do they bother? Just to cover their own asses legally? Isn't that a fine line? And yes, they ARE moderated. Who is this mysterious "staff" that picks and chooses what postings get deleted, and which stay? I know they have other people moderating, not just their "staff".

It is weird. I've seen posts deleted for TOS, and other posts that look the same, and they stay up.

The same reason Yahoo Answers Community Guidelines are not universally enforced.

Craigslist, like Y!A, is free to its users. They rely on other users (and the cops btw) to notify them of posts that are in direct violation of their guidelines.

So, as with most things in this world, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

If it bothers you soooooooo much, become a narc and start reporting those posts you think violate guidelines. Without even hopping over to Craigslist, I will bet that somewhere they have posted that very statement. If you see it, report it.

That is why my friend.
