To me the word has zero importance because it seems to have a different meaning for everybody. Actually I see myself as being simply a biological entity much like any other living thing, only with the benefit of a particularly well developed cognitive center. I am able to contemplate my own "self", the fact that I "live" and that I shall some day cease to be alive.
I do not "know" that there is any mysterious invisible superbeing somewhere who supposedly pulls the puppet strings; or that there is a "heaven" or a "hell" or a "soul" or an "afterlife" These are all things which, in various forms, human beings have devised for themselves to believe in so that they can subdue the distastefulness of "oblivion" one day. Nobody wants to suddenly not exist any more, and for the majority of people the only way to deal with the inevitability of death is to make themselves believe that it is not "the end" but merely a transition into some other realm of being. I suppose, for me, that somewhat defines "spirituality" because it reflects what the individual happens to believe exists beyond, and outside of, the physical body, and therefore can perpetuate after the physical body has died and disintegrated. By this definition, therefore, I make no claim to any personal spirituality because I just do not know what happens beyond the barriers of death. If it is nothing at all, then I shall never know. If, somehow, in some way, some "essence" of me; my conscious self-awareness, my "soul" if you prefer that word, survives that death, then, and only then will I "know". Until that time I cannot pretend to know the unknowable, nor will I try.

Great answers. Lessee, um, on a scale of 1 - 10, I'd have to say the answer is, uh, 'Yes?'
I guess that cavemen, or maybe convicts in prison, just get up each day and survive. Kind of a sorry life. If survival is all that's necessary, then spirituality isn't necessary. But neither is achievement or hope.
I don't know about others, but there is a definition of myself that I want to achieve. Maybe it will make me important in the eyes of others, or maybe it won't. Either way, it will make me important in my own eyes. And that, my friend, is spirituality. The 'why' of you, and the 'what' you plan to make of yourself.
Physically, you're just a lump of chemicals going around consuming and crapping. Spirituality is what makes your presence important, even if it's just to one or two others who will carry on your legacy in some form.

I think spirituality of some kind, even an opinion or a basis, is necessary of everyone. There are so many people out there that say 'i kinda believe in God, but i don't really go to church or anything' I think anyone can respect the guy that says, I don't believe in God, for at least respecting the decision. People need something to depend on, something to fall back, something to argue with and for.
And also, God is the best.

Very important. Spirituality is a belief in A supreme Being whom I call God. It has nothing to do with man made religion.
