I have just bought a flat, but all the doors inside the flat are ugly, heavy fire doors. Can I change them as I was recently told that I may have to keep them by law for the protection of other residents of the other flat s?

Aside from the fact they are ugly and heavy, if they adjoin common areas shared by other flats, such as hallways, exterior access, etc. they should be fire rated by law. They can save lives and property. Interior doors can be either. However, they can still save lives and property too, if they are fire rated. Check with the fire marshal for your area and see what they have to say. Buy some nicer, fire rated doors if they are mandatory.

Why dont you shop for nice heavy fire doors? They're there for a reason but if you really can't stand them i don't think there's a law to say they have to be fire ones. However, if you're in a lease hold you might find in the contract that you do have to so check this first!

You can get fire doors that are more traditonal, the flat panel ones are just cheap.

I would keep the doors, they are better made then the fake panel doors you see in B&Q (carbord filled).

You can tart up the fire doors, fit stick on moldings etc, paint dorrs etc. They can look good.

Depends on local building codes, but in general, no. You can get new doors in various styles that are fire-rated, so you have options.

Your entry doors MUST be fire rated. All interior doors, like the bedroom, bathroom doors can be regular interior doors.

From what you have stated you do no longer choose inner hearth doorways. in case you % to be very careful, you coudl installation one between the kitchen and something of the flat because it is the place maximum of your hearth produicing kit is recent. often in case you replace doorways and the olld ones are no longer hearth dorrs you do no longer choose the recent ones to be. of direction you shoudl have smoke detectors in all the rooms and a warmth detector interior the kitchen. in case you have them, then you actual are risk-free iof there's a hearth.
