I have a 2005 Ford Taurus SEL latley i have been having problems starting it. Here are the things i have observed. If you have any ideas it would be greatly apprciated. the starter seems to sound like it is working fine it makes the normal trying to turn over sound but not all the time sometimes it makes just a clicking noise. the onboard computer screen will flash fuel comp just before it displays the milage. it will start adventually and it seems to start better with a fuller tank of gas. Today the clock radio reset it self back to 12:00. once the car is started there are no other obvious problems the engine dose not seem to be miss firing or anthing else and none of the warnig light on the disply unit are lite up oil is always changed on time.

You have problems with your electronics. Tauruses have these problems all the time. Your fuel pump might also be bad. Those are known to go bad on fords. Check your battery. If there is a clicking noise when you start its the battery. If not then check with the dealer. Ford is plainly junk.

Sounds like you have several separate issues:

The clicking noise is likely that the starter is starting to fail. There's two parts to a starter: One part pushes the starter gear out so it engages with the flywheel, the other part actually turns the starter motor to start the engine. The clicking noise is the sound of the starter trying to push the gear into engagement with the flywheel.

The "full fuel" issue seems to point to possibly a fuel pump problem. When there is more fuel in the tank, the sheer weight of the fuel in the tank will increase the fuel pressure in the line, making it easier to start the engine after the car has been sitting for a while.

The clock reset is an odd thing. But it could be that all the problems you're describing go back to a single electrical issue that's causing shorting out of the various electrical systems, perhaps caused by a weak or dying battery. It will take some diagnosing to determine which is the source of the problem, and that's going to take a mechanic some fiddling to figure out. Good luck

I'm leaning toward a weak battery as stated above.

The starter uses a tremendous amount of power, and when you try to start your car, all the other electronics is starved for power. Ie: Fuel pump, ignition, clock, radio, ..basically everything.

I'd replace your battery. $50 could fix ALL your starting problems. 90% chance.

ADDED: It could also be your starter is going bad, 10% chance.

It would sound as if the battery is getting weak or there may be a corrosion problem with the battery cables. Remove the battery cables and thoroughly clean the inside of the cable ends and the battery terminals. If that doesn't take care of it remove the battery and take it to a reliable auto parts store where they will check the battery condition for free in most cases.
Hope this helps.
