Hi, My down comforter says I can wash it in warm water and tumble dry on low. I washed my comforter yesterday at the laundrymat and it smelled horrible. It smelled like BAD sewage. I took it home and jammed it in my washer, added a cup of tide detergent and washed it. It still smells horrible. I can't take the smell. How do I get rid of the smell? Please help!

That's one of things about using public machines. Often your stuff doesn't come out smelling nice, or it comes out with a horrible odor!

Another thing with fluffy comforters is you have to completely dry or they will tend to mildew rather quickly.

If you have something that does have a funk to it, rewash but add 1/2 C. baking soda to the detergent when the basin is filling with water, then add your item. That will nip the smell in the bud. I tried this a month ago, liked it so much that I use baking soda in every load now! Its cheap and works great. I even noticed that Tide now has a detergent that has baking soda in it. You don't need to buy Tide, just add your own to your own detergent!

When you're drying the comforter, put a tennis ball or two in with it in the dryer. That will help keep the fluff up and help it dry quicker.

It shouldn't smell like that. If there is any smell it would only be from the bag. More than likely if it came from Ross it was probably used and then washed. I would either get your money back or exchange it for another and make sure you open it up and smell it before you pruchase again. I doubt that the dry cleaners can do anything. Once you get the feather wet inside there could be mildew growing-yuck. Whenever you buy from discount places like that you need to thouroughly check it over and open it up before purchasing.

Most likely the down on the inside got burnt or something when you dryed it. Let it hang dry outside for a day or two and spray it with fabreeze before you bring it in your house. Always works for me.. hope it helps
