just lay in the sun. Right now we rely on walks in the woods, but it would be nice to just open the door some times so he can just walk around free and maybe dig a hole or some thing. But fences cost so much. Is there a practical economical way of fencing my yard ( over a acre ) ? I realize thats alot to fence so maybe just a part of the yard. He is a big boy so it has to be high. Thanks for your ideas.

Go to a local fence company such as American fencing and let them show you the many different types of "dog runs". You will love them and it will not cost a lot of money. You will be able to leave a large portions of your yard unfenced if you wish.

Look into buying a Dog Run. It is a fenced area that you can have as big or small as you wish. The Invisible Fences work for some dogs but not all. There is also a lot of training that goes with them.

I'm in complete agreement with PobeptK. From experience, I know that Chain link is the most inexpensive and the easiest to install. My yard is completely fenced and since then we have installed two more sections within our property. One for the children's play yard and one for our dogs. The fencing is inexpensive, it is the labor that will cost you. Find a friend or someone to help you and you will have a great fence in no time and for a reasonable expense.

you should get an underground fence, they are great. we have 0.5 acres fenced in and it was $500. the dog was trained in a few days. now we can let him out and he can come back when he's ready. we live on a busy road and a lake so it keeps him safe. you can also just buy the system and install it yourself to save money. we don't even have to put the collar on him anymore, he knows his boundaries!

chain link fence is about the cheapest fencing you can buy and erect. You can save a lot of money by erecting the fence your self.
