Halloween originated from the Celts who celebrated the rise of the spirits from the dead. They celebrated this b/c as fall approaches the weather gets colder, crops died and so did people. They CELEBRATED the release of the spirits. This was not done to worship the devil, hence the name "All Saints Day." I love Halloween and I celebrate every year. Halloween is a holiday to celebrate and have fun. Halloween is for people of all ages. There is nothing wrong with dressing in a costume and going trick-or-treating. It is great that you dress your kids up and take them out. Halloween is a great holiday and should be celebrated by everyone. It's my fav holiday besides Christmas. There will always be those that hate a certain holiday, but that is them. Keep the Halloween tradition alive.

You have to do what you want for your children. Halloween is actually a celebration of the Harvest. It isn't wrong to celebrate something that you believe is a tradition. There is no devil worship involved in Halloween...there never has been. Just like the celebration of Day of the Dead in Latin countries. It is a day to honor those that have passed on there is nothing about the devil.
It is believed by some that Halloween is the one night where spirits can come back for a short time to create mischief or see those that they loved who are still living. Some Celtic people used turnips to light their lost loved ones way (they have no pumpkins in Ireland) to their doors in order to receive the plate of food they left out for them.
Do what you want to do. Do some research about the actual origin of Halloween and make the decision for yourself. Don't let anyone else make up your mind for you.

Halloween is not evil and does not reflect any form of devil worship. Even my father who was raised by extremely conservative religious parents got to celebrate Halloween because it is simply a day of fun. It's a chance for kids to do what they don't normally get to do--go out at night and get large quantities of candy. Psychologically, this is healthy.
Religiously, I have to say that I see more and more people these days who proclaim the evils of Halloween because they are simply parroting others who are religiously misguided. Yes, the holiday has some pagan origins. But this does not make it evil. Pagan believes are older than Christianity but that does not mean they are any less moral. Think about Christmas and Easter, both of which take most of their traditional activities from pagan festivals.
The early Christian church purposely took elements of pagan faith and used them in their own traditions to help attract more people to their church. All Hallow's eve was adopted by the church as All Saints Day a long time ago. Many Christians have forgotten this fact.
Halloween is simply a day of fun. You aren't engaging in any form of devil worship or evil. Let the kids have this one day out of the year to play and have fun.

As some of the other said, it's the ancient festival of Samhain, the Celtic new year.
But more importantly, this pagan holiday serves a very important and healthy psychological function. It's the holiday that acknowledges the death aspect of the life cycle (all pagan holidays celebrate some aspect of the life cycle),, and invites people to 'walk around in its shoes' so to speak. By dressing up as symbols of the things we fear, and by allowing ourselves to be frightened (as in haunted houses), we acknowledge and embrace our fears and therefore, gain a better understanding of them.
This brings our fear into light and removes its power to make us afraid. So you see, it helps us process the fear and change it into something manageable. The holiday also celebrates the hope of an afterlife, so it's not just about fear either. This is why it's so fun and exciting, and good to participate in.
People who think Halloween should not be celerated are either freakazoids who think that anything that isn't strictly of their particular religion is evil, or who just can't see the benefit of facing fears. Our culture has a bad habit of trying to pretend that if something is not pleasant it is not there. This is neither true nor healthy.
I think it's good to let children look fear in the face, dress up, get candy and have fun. There is no Christian devil involved.

Ive heard that a lot too. it's such a shame.
I mean, you could say that it's the same thing as the Wicca Saimhan (pronounced as sowen).
well I don't mean the same, but it came from that, I believe.
but so come many things, a lot of things from the church to.
and I personally think it's anything but evil.
anyways, I think you should just let you're children, have fun and dress up.
here, we don't celebrate it, and I never had the change to dress up like that, and I really regret that.
trust me there is nothing evil about trick or treat. I think the evilest thing is perhaps the amount of sugar in the sweets, that make your teeth rot.

Halloween is a Pagan Holiday where they celebrated the dead. People dressed as skeletons, ghosts, zombies, etc so they could blend in with them that night. . . . . Halloween in America is very modernized and different. We celebrate a night where kids get to dress up and get free candy! It is also so fun to have spooky stuff, dont get me wrong - I am methodist but I do celebrate halloween. My pastor even hands out treats! I think it is one of the nicer holidays because you dont have to cook a big meal or buy presents! It is just a fun night where we all try to have fun and get a big scare!

Many families fight about this.
Don't go to your families' houses, just go to your neighbours' for trick or treat. Have fun and enjoy the night. OR start having your very own party for the neighbourhood kids and parents.
It is more like an outdoor party now. It is not worshipping the devil. Here is the history or Halloween:

My church and many other churches in our area offer an alternative to Halloween. They call it a fall festival and they have games and rides and give out candy. I think it is a nice alternative if you are opposed to trick or treating. I personally am not that opposed to Halloween and trick or treating. I would not let my children dress up in scary outfits, though.
