How did you do it when your lil one began to crawl then walk?
We have an area rug in the living room but I dont think thats enough. He can't get a grip when he is trying to crawl on the wood. He slips and on Friday he fell really bad :( I can take his socks off but in Cali. it is now getting cold.

Should we get rug? or are there any tips you can give me?

Get grippy socks, or take them off completely. Keep the house a couple degrees warmer.

We have hard wood, and a cold house. But we dont wear socks. My son hates them, and no child ever died of chilly feet.

You can get runners and rugs, but Ive found if they dont cover all the floor they just end up tripping babies up, or else they realize they can be folded over and they get into the gunk under the rug. blech.

Bumps happen. My son seems to always have a goose egg on his forehead. But, its a short phase and it does pass. Its a hard knock life, and honestly, he's learning quicker because of it. He's 8 months and already trying to walk. I think its because he's sick of falling down, lol.

We have tile flooring and had the same issues. We got a large area rug for the living room and a play yard like this...

http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=42249&CatID=52434&GrpTyp=STY&ItemID=11cd536&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CmCatId=42249|52429|52434

(you can also get them at Babies-r-Us, Baby Depot, etc.)

Instead of leaving it made as a circle, we opened it up at on place and made sort of a corral with it and the living room furniture so our son would have plenty of room to crawl around and play, but would be safe on the rug. When he got to walking a little better we let him loose. We kept him barefoot or in shoes though so he didn't slip while wearing socks.

Good Luck!

We had a couple of really soft cushy blankets that I used to fold up a bit and put on the floor when my daughter was crawling. I used to just keep an eye on her when she was on the floor, to make sure she didn't hit her chin or anything. As for walking, my daughter is always barefoot around the house. That's easiest, and as long as your house is a comfortable temp, he should be just fine.

Yes, get a rug.
Find one that is heavy and thick.
A wool rug meets these standards but tends to shed.

I had a BIG issue with this when my son started to crawl,we have hardwood floors in EVERY room of our house, what we did was got this gate:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5983018
and restricted him to an area were there was only carpet.

Or you could get a carpet but that can get expensive depening on the area of the room.

Good Luck:)
