A lot of people say it's alright to engage in sexual activities during pregnancy as long as it could not cause discomforts on the part of the woman. But isn't it that stimulation (may be caused by sex) can lead to uterine contractions and this in turn might lead to premature labor? Do i make sense here?

No it does not cause preterm labor. It does cause contractions, which later in pregnancy can help progress things, but not cause labor.

You change positions when it hurts, if it starts hurting all the time you dont have sex, not because it can hurt the baby, but because it hurts your body.

The only time you dont have sex when pregnant is if you have an incomplete cervix or issues with your cervix, or a high risk pregnancy, or placenta problems, but those are things are found by your doctor and they tell you before hand.

The body goes into labor because of certain hormones that are ready when it is time for the baby to be born. Your body has to be ready and the baby has to be ready.
It is a different kind of uterine contractions.
Though there are some exeptions and if a person has sex and feel like they are going into early labor they should go to the doctor. Then not be having sex any more because you know you are the exeption.

Sex can be used to help start labor, it's true - but there is nothing wrong with having a healthy sex life during low risk pregnancies. Not at all! As long as you're not having early labor issues, it's fine to continue as long as you're comfortable. It isn't going to make you go into labor unless your body is ready to anyways. You're fine, unless the doctor has said otherwise!

This only happens in the late stages of pregnancy and it's because sperm has a hormone in it that can trigger labor contractions when you're close to being full term. It's fine to have sex while pregnant until the very late stages of gestation. You're so big by that time anyway, it's kind of more hassle than it's worth, so have fun while you can and good luck with your new baby! Congratulations!

Doctors actually encourage sex all the way up to the end of your pregnancy - because it can help put your body into labor.
But like someone already said in an earlier comment, it's not going to cause your body to go into labor when it is not ready.

And ofcourse, you would want to make sure that you have the green light from your doctor to have sex up to the end.

It's very unlikely that the uterine contractions caused by an orgasm would be strong enough to induce labor.

Yes, you make sense - but you're wrong, anyhow.

Repeated studies seem to show that frequent sexual intercourse during pregnancy results in *timely* labor, neither early nor late.

I don't think normal sex will do that until your body is ready to give birth. Once your body goes into birth mode then semen can help to promote softening of the cervix because of prostaglandins, but I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy your pregnancy...
