Is there any difference between the old black coaxial cable and the new white coaxial cable they use now. I want to run cable out to the garage and the neighbor has a spool of black wire but I also want to hook up internet and they usually install the white coaxial these days and don't want to run the black coaxial if it isn't going to work the best for internet applications. Are they differenet grades of wire? What should I be looking for to run internet? Or will the black coaxial be fine?

color does not matter. Just make sure it is RG6 cable. It should be printed on it. RG6 is the standard for digital cable and HD.

The difference between black and white is the colour... you'll find that most specifications of cable are available in multiple colour ways... so black coax or white coax can be just different colours.

What you need to do is read the printing on the coaxes to see what standard they adhere to... and make sure they both use the same standard or a compatible standard. Decent cable makers stamp or print the standard the cable adheres to on the cable at a regular interval (somewhere between a foot and a yard typically)

Hi. Coax has differing impedances. Usually for cable you want RG58. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RG-58. The black will be marked with the impedance. The RG59 will not match properly, but can be used in a pinch.

Coax is coax, nothing is different. The white is purely for "pretty" purposes only.
