Are they now the new force to reckon with? They've begun this season going 7-0-0 preseason (while not playing the Pizza line for 5 of those games) and are now 4-0-0 on the support of a backup goalie. Is this just a lucky streak? Who will be the first team to snap their undefeated string?

Let's see: they have one of the top offenses in the east, if not the top, and a very deep defense, not to mention their current goalie, Gerber, led the Carolina Hurricanes to a #2 seed in the playoffs only to get the flue and be stuck watching Cam Ward Take his job. Poor guy... But that's okay, after having an off year he is seemingly ready to regrab the starting job, leading the NHL in wins, not losing a game yet.

And you're surprised that this team is doing well? They're a complete team. They stand a great chance of another finals appearance.

The Senators aren't Stanley Cup Finalists by fluke. They've got a strong team that pretty much stayed in tact over the off season and they've come into the year with their top two players (two of the top 4 or 5 players in the world at that) in contract years, with extra motivation to play their best.... (Heatley has since signed but Spezza's still playing for a big raise)

Their 'backup' goalie is one year removed from winning the Stanley Cup in Carolina if you recall, so Gerber playing well isn't a surprise to anyone either really. It's a solid team with a load of depth and a very well rounded set of skills in all areas of the game.

The Sens are simply a great, well-rounded team. It is really hard to find any weakness with them. I picked them, at the start of the season, to win The Cup. They have a solid, well-balanced team. I say all of this while being a Leaf fan. There's always luck involved...even with good teams but the good teams take advantage of the luck.

But...i think tonight against Atlanta...the winning streak will be broken. Atlanta needs a win and playing at home this could happen.

First of all starting off the season facing the Leafs boost their confidence. They own the Leafs during the season. After that the next two games it was all solid and team efort.Alfredsson is a true leader and that line is one of if not the best in NHL.They're on a mission and its getting back to the finals, and this time win it all.

No luck here. They are a good team and have been for years. That they were in the Cup final last year was no fluke. They have been building towards that for years.

The new wrinkle is that they went out and got a good 'back up' in Gerber and he's playing really well. Perhaps enough to challenge Emery for the #1 job. (and that can't be a bad thing)

Go Sens Go! Allez les Senateurs!

are they a force to be reckoned w/? yes. they are "good".

however, the NHL doesn't hand out the S/C based off the first week or month.

lucky? hmm, maybe. i'm sure a lot of it is skill. but even the Senator players couldn't, didn't, (and wouldn't) predict this same outcome.

the game is not about who starts strong. but who finishes strong. teams that can display this surge and momentum in the playoffs tend to have great coaching, depth in their lines, great team chemistry, and health / lack of injuries. The regular season is just to determine who DOESN'T get invited to "the dance" called the playoffs. a roster of superstars will usually lose out to a TEAM of role players who work together.

good for the Sens. ask this question in 5 months.

The NHL's PWA picked Ottawa overwhelmingly as the best team in the East this year so I see no surprises. This is a team that only lost 7 games after after December 21st last year. I certainly don't think luck is involved at all.

They are an offensive force (ranked 2nd last year) and a defensive force (ranked 7th). The year before that they were 1st in offense and 3rd in defense.

Despite what moronic leafs fans say, the sens are a really good team. Too bad they lost the cup last year, but when was the last time the leafs played for the cup????

Oh by the way, great game last night 7-1 hahahahhahaha

The Sens are good. I had them penciled in at #2 in the East behind the Rangers in my preseason predictions. Right now I think they are the beast of the east.

I still say the Sharks are #1 in the NHL.

I don't know who will be the first to beat them, I only know is that they are getting those pesky wins out of the way so they can lose to the Wings in the Stanley Cup Playoffs
