Is there any difference between the old black coaxial cable and the new white coaxial cable they use now. I want to run cable out to the garage and the neighbor has a spool of black wire but I also want to hook up internet and they usually install the white coaxial these days and don't want to run the black coaxial if it isn't going to work the best for internet applications. Are they differenet grades of wire? What should I be looking for to run internet? Or will the black coaxial be fine?

the color isnt anything... just the insulations of the cable
its the RG that you need to be looking at..
the higher the RG the better the cable..
the better the signal gets all the way to the end
without any loss

The difference between black and white is the colour... you'll find that most specifications of cable are available in multiple colour ways... so black coax or white coax can be just different colours. What you need to do is read the printing on the coaxes to see what standard they adhere to... and make sure they both use the same standard or a compatible standard. Decent cable makers stamp or print the standard the cable adheres to on the cable at a regular interval (somewhere between a foot and a yard typically)

The best all around for internet, HD cable and Digital cable is RG 6. You can go higher, but the 6 is all you need for good speed on internet and clear picture. Higher rated cable would be required for commercial applications. The rating of the cable will be fine printed on the outside of it constantly or every couple feet.

You didn't say how or where you were going to use the cable. There are several cables out there and a lot of colors. If you are doing your own work and putting your connectors on bulk cable, then RG-6 is the most common. Color is only for cosmetics. Cable specifications are what you need to watch. If you are going to use pre-assembled cable lengths with the connectors installed, fiber optics are top of the line.
Good luck ! ! !

And like the doc said COLOR. Either can be used, the color is for cosmetic purposes, but they can both be purchased in different qualities designated by thickness. And the insulation is the same, black is commonly used in residential and automotive while white has mostly been used in maritime applications, If it's free use it, it'll work just fine. I doubt they changed your old cable tv cable when they ran your new high speed to your house right? Give it to the Doc, He answered first, they other guy just tried to flame him and act like a know-it-all

Color.

More obvious might be cable with STATED designations in application.
