I just love the way you say, we are pregnant and we are 6 weeks into the pregnancy. I can already see you are going to be a great dad. I believe you can eat chocolate cake. I know she can't have coffee. but just to be sure you should ask your doctor. congradulations

Chocolate is the number one thing craved during pregnancy. While chocolate is not harmful, its consumption should be limited for a couple of reasons. First, chocolate contains caffeine which, if consumed in excess, has been shown to increase the chance of miscarrying. If chocolate is the only form of caffeine that your wife is consuming then a candy bar a day or something would not be too much caffeine. The second reason for limiting the intake of chocolate is that is very important to control weight gain during pregnancy. A pregnant woman's body only needs about 300 extra calories a day during the first two trimesters. She should only gain 2 - 3 pounds during her first trimester. She should eat sensible as much as she can but if she occasionally is dying for a Snickers bar or something, then moderate amounts of chocolate are ok.
Just as a tip...I'm almost 11 weeks pregnant and I crave chocolate every once in a while. What I do is buy the bag of miniature Snickers (my favorite candy!) and only eat one mini bar if I just have to have chocolate. Also, I keep it put up in the cabinet so that I'm not seeing it sitting in the candy jar every time I walk by.

I'm 20 weeks right now and all the books I've read say that you can eat it, but don't overload on it. There is caffeine in it and you're not supposed to have a lot of caffeine when you are pregnant. But it's not bad, there are some good antioxidants in dark chocolate, so there is a good thing to eating it too. I personally craved it more before I got pregnant.

Absolutely, chocolate will not hurt anything. I ate chocolate all of the time. And I only gained 21 lbs through out the entire pregnancy. Tell your wife to enjoy.

Eating chocolate is fine. There is a small amount of caffeine in chocolate so that would be the only consideration. However most chocolate has rather small amounts of caffeine in it. So a woman would have to eat a lot of chocolate to matter. Most woman's doctor allow the caffeine equivalent of 1 or two cups of coffee a day during pregnancy. so now all you have to do is look up the milligrams of caffeine in one cup of coffee and compare that to the milligrams of caffeine in a oz of chocolate (which you have also looked up)

As long as she doesn't eat the chocolate everyday, i think it should be ok. I'm 28 weeks pregnant and sometimes i have craving for chocolate and i'll have one but not too often, just watch her sugar level.

I thin kan occasional piece would be ok, but it's probably best to limit the sugar intake, as it can lead to gestational diabetes, which can lead to serious complications. Satisfying a little craving now and again is ok, just be moderate.

Try telling a pregnant women she can't have chocolate and you'll be in big trouble, ha ha.
Everything in moderation (chocolate has caffine and sugar in it)
