During ancient Egypt, the first humans were very aware of the stars, moon, sun and the earth's movement. They depicted certain shapes in the stars and gave them names and stories for each. The stories usually had a lot to do with events that happened during that constellation's month. Like Aquarius, always shown as a man pouring out a pitcher of water, he brings the Spring rain.
This wasn't just some mumbo jumbo that people in recent times made up. The zodiac is as old as man-kind, one of the first understandable symbols found in pyramids was the zodiac wheel.
As for picking out a partner due to their sign, I think that is taking it a bit far. But everyone is entitled to their opinion and how they choose to do things, it's not your or anyone else's place to say it's not right.

The zodiac, comes from a greek word meaning, the circle of little animals. The animals representing the signs were placed among the stars usually for great acts of heroism. The zodiac is based on some astrology and astronomy--which are not very accurate sciences. So, only believe the zodiac if you are fatalistic. Otherwise the zodiac has no complete basis of truth.

Yes and no. I don't follow the daily horoscope, as it is really a bunch of nonsense. The daily and monthly prediction on your love, career, health, family and wealth are merely for entertainment only. However, my personality and characteristics perfectly match my zodiac sign, and I can totally relate my emotions, attitude, lifestyle and behavior to it.
The twelve zodiac symbols are really a general overview of your personality and characteristics, it explains why you think or behave in a certain way. However, this does not indicate that there are only twelve kinds of people. Everyone is still different in their own special ways, and your other interests and hobbies adds on more character that differentiate yourself from another person who share the same zodiac sign.

Well, if you're looking at just your daily horoscope out of the newspaper, yeah, it's not going to work. that's just a general statement (or something just completely makde up) for all people who are born under that sign. I suggest you look into getting a full chart done. There's more to it than just your sun sign. Some people act more like their moon sign actually. It really does depend on the rest of your chart.
So, no, there's not just 12 types of people out there. There's endless possibilities. That and the stars don't predicts exactly who you're going to fall in love with. It's more like just general compatibility. Some pairings work out great, some don't. That's life. A chart will tell you things just for you based on the time and place you were born. Not just under what sign. It's kind of interesting when you get into it. But no, I'm not going to say "I'm not going to date you because you're a leo and we're not compatible." That's just ignorant. lol

Depends upon which Zodiac Signs. Don't believe in many of them because there are so many different ones. There are the Western, The Oriental, The Native American, The Vedic among others.

The zodiac is the circle of living animals but represent gods/goddesses/totems to many. I believe we have predestined qualities but that we also have the ability to change ourselves to some degree. My hubby has used astrological charts to pair up employees at his job and it has worked well.

i believe in them to a certain extent. when reading the horoscope it describes the general main idea for all the peopel under that sign and not for individuals..also it is up to each individual on how they interpret their horoscope and many people see a thing or two that fits them and the thing that the horoscope will tell them what will occur. i had a couple of time some of the things listed under my horoscope come true but maybe because of how i interpreted the horoscope itself.

its funny, i don't believe in it, but i still read my horoscope once in a blue moon.
Try this trick on someone whose all into it. Read them the horoscope, particularly the part that says the traits. But instead read them another sign. Most of the traits are universal. Really makes them mad.
