I realize that there was only one decade in between there, but still... The new music really sucks.

I'm talking about real music. Pop music is not real music. There are only a handful of new/original bands that are any good. Most just sound manufactured and all the same. It'll have to turn around sooner or later though.

The 90's were a great decade for music! What are you talking about? I agree that we need a new Kurt Cobain.

Yes it is. It is hard to find any new talent now days that write their own music. Everything is so bubble gum. Its all about looks and what these "artists" spend there money on.(cars, houses, rehab) Do you ever see any ugly musicians now? Where are the Freddie Mercury's of our day. It all about sex appeal, not talent. There are a few exceptions however. I still find myself listening to all my old records, waiting for the Kurt Cobain of the new decade who is going to burst this pink, perfect, candy bubble.

hey the 80s were pretty good! I think that this decade is probably the worse decade for music, granted there are real musicians who save the radio but then the influx of hip-hop and emo rock offsets the good ones. Too much of a thing is never good, especially it's aim is to target impressionable youths so they all come pre-packaged.

Pop music is still music though, especially when it's so mainstream. And pop music can be good, after all nowadays even "original" musicians are under a label and have a certain image to present, a PR person, an agent etc.

I really agree with you. I have liked a few songs from the last seven years, but I couldn't say any of them are favorites of all time. The 80's were not the greatest for music either, but it's still ten times better than this decade so far.

I think the music sucks when it dosen't have a real meaning in the song. Like the core of the song is nothing. And the people who actually sing the song and dance to it often don't really know what they are dancing and singing. However there are some songs and artists now that go far and beyond in a good way what the 80's couldn't.

How can it be called music? It's simply screaming and noise kids make on their toy instruments. I'm listening to a so-called "Hits Only" FM station (94.1 WVIC) in East Lansing (Michigan State U), I couldn't take it. Shut it off, listening to a Beatles CD now.

No. You must just be listening to the wrong radio station. Pop music is the classiest and best-produced it has ever been, there are plenty of good new rock bands coming through and rap is no worse than it ever was.

Oh REAL music... Hmmm... What radio stations play REAL music, cause everything I listen to has classical, country or pop/rock... BTW, I love '80s music...

Some if it is okay.  I think the problem seems to be too much repetition.  Nothing unique.  Same problem in the 80's!
